TN Govt Schools Send 28 Students to IIT Madras This Year

Record intake highlights success of IIT4Everyone initiative

A total of 28 students from Tamil Nadu government-run schools have secured admission to the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) this year under the IIT4Everyone (Anaivarukkum IIT) initiative, State School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi announced on Thursday.

TN govt school students achieve milestone with 28 admissions to IIT Madras.

The minister said the achievement reflects both the improved quality of education in state-run schools and the determination of underprivileged students to excel in one of India’s most prestigious institutions.

This year, six candidates among the top 100 JEE rankers chose IIT Madras — the highest number in the past five years — compared to only two in 2024. Officials believe this indicates a rising preference for IIT Madras among top-performing students.

The IIT4Everyone initiative, launched to provide equal opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, continues to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between government school students and elite higher education institutions.
