B.Tech seats at eight-year high in 2024-25 session, shows AICTE data; southern states fill major chunk

 As per AICTE, B.Tech seats have witnessed an eight-year high in 2024-25 session. The majority of seats filled by three southern states. The number of BTech seats available across India has witnessed an impressive eight-year high after years of downward trend, says All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). A recent article by The Indian Express quoted AICTE as revealing that the approved intake for undergraduate engineering and technology programmes for the academic session 2024-25 stood at 14.90 lakh, indicating an increase of at least 18.84% from 12.54 lakh in the 2021-22 academic session. As per the AICTE report, the first rise was witnessed during 2022-23 academic year with an increase of close to 2 per cent (12.74 lakh seats), followed by a 5 per cent rise in 2023-2024 (13.50 lakh seats).
