Unbeknownst to Ms Argamani and three other hostages in the area, Israeli commandos had infiltrated the camp to launch a daring rescue operation to free them, a report by the Washington Post says.  A massive fire broke out on the third floor of a shopping mall in the southern part of Kolkata on Friday, prompting authorities to evacuate the building, an official said. "As of now, there is no report of any injury. Firefighting operations are underway. Some firefighters have entered the building wearing oxygen masks," the official told PTI. The Supreme Court on Friday said the suicides in Kota were not due to NEET-UG 2024 results, and that the petitioners seeking a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the exam should not make such emotional arguments. NEET 2024 controversy The court's remark came while the vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta took objection to a submission made by one of the counsels for petitioners, saying that students at coaching centres in Kota were dying by suicide. Remarking that the suicides in Kota were not due to NEET-UG 2024 results, Justice Nath said to the counsel, "don't make unnecessary emotional arguments here." Later, the bench also issued a notice on the pleas seeking a CBI probe. While the National Testing Agency (NTA) was directed to file a response within two weeks, other respondents (Centre) were given time until July 8, the next date of hearing. Tamil actor Pradeep Vijayan was found dead at his home in Chennai on Wednesday evening. An accidental fall may have led to his death, cops suspect. Actor Pradeep Vijayan Vijayan, 39, lived alone in Chennai's Palavakkam. He had complained of dizziness and breathlessness and had also sought treatment, reported The Hindu. His friends tried contacting him on Wednesday morning, but their calls went unanswered. When he did not open the door despite knocking, they called the cops. The police broke open the door and found Vijayan lying dead in his bathroom with injuries to his head and face, the report said. A case of unnatural death has been registered. "Initial probe suggests he died because of a fall," a police officer in Neelangarai told NDTV. Vijayan was best known for his roles in films like Thegidi (2014), Meyaadha Maan (2017), Teddy (2021), Irumbu Thirai (2018) and Rudhran (2023).

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has started the ‘Sports Excellence Admission' (SEA) from the academic year 2024-2025. The institute is the first IIT in the country to introduce admissions for sportspersons in its undergraduate programmes.  IIT Madras Adds Sports UG Entry The admission process through SEA will require a student to qualify JEE (Advanced) but would not be through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal rather through a separate portal operated by IIT Madras. Candidates who have secured a position in the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank list in the JEE (Advanced) 2024, and have won at least one medal in any National/International-level sports competition in the last four years are encouraged to apply.
